Ideation and Proof of Concept
"Ideation is the mode of the design process in which the participants concentrate on idea generation. It represents a process of 'going wide' interms of concepts and outcomes. Ideation provides both the fuel and also the source material for building prototype and getting innovative solutions into the hands of users".
ME-RIISE had organized a one-day state level event called 'IDEATION' on 16th of October 2019, where the participants has to process and generate their ideas or solutions to the problem statements which includes brief description of the concepts, feasibility of the idea and the road map of the plan till the execution. It creates volume and variety in participant's innovation option and also encourages students to convert their ideas into reality.
The event was held at ME-RIISE Office and was coordinated by Dr. A Geetha Kiran ,HOD of Dept. CSE and Mr. Vasanth Kumar ,Asst. Proff. MCA. The event evoked by watering the plants. The juries were Mr Sanjeev P Varute ,Consult, startups on IOT Bengaluru and Mr Ramesh Adiga ,Vice president and Delivery head Skava at Infosys Company.
The audience consisted of students from all the branches to dig and explore their heads in entrepreneurship. It was the first phase of the competition . Totally 100 students were participated and they were divided into 40 teams. Students conferred their ideas on various topics which included the present day problems.
The appraisal was based on the quality, reliability, ingenuity of ideas, feasibility of problems and the presentation standards. The juries received around 40 novel ideas from the students. Awards and prizes for the winners of the first phase ,IDEATION we're announced and 7 teams shortlisted by the juries for the final phase (i.e., Proof of concept). The students of Jorhat College ,Assam emerged victorious in this phase.
The session included presentation, brainstorming session and finally defining the parameters to identify an idea with enough business potential that can be taken forward as a startup. At the end of the session, participants were very happy and gave their feedback individually there by played their roles in marking this event as a grand success.
PROOF OF CONCEPT
"A proof of concept is an exercise, in which work is focused on determining whether an idea can be turned into a reality. A proof of concept is meant to determine the feasibility of an idea or to verify that the new idea will function as envisioned".
The first phase of the event IDEATION was successfully piloted by ME-RIISE. The idea faced a straighten line of questioning in the screening stage and the best ideas were shortlisted for the next phase that is 'PROOF OF CONCEPT'. The proof of concept sought to test a basic architecture proposal for the system that would support this goal. The shortlisted teams were given around three months time to come out with a product /prototype /business model /solutions. Proof of concept helps to give weight to an idea and guages the concept in scaling it as market ready. Formulating Proof of concept is a giant step towards cognizance of an idea. It allows for detailed probe and provides a true litmus test for feasibility. Totally five teams had participated in this event. One from Maharaja Institute of Technology Thandavapura, one from Rajeev Institute of Technology Hassan and three teams from Malnad College Of Engineering Hassan.
The event was inducted by watering the plants. Mr Ramesh Adiga and Dr. H.J. Amarendra were present in the panel as juries for the event.
The event gave a platform for students from various streams of engineering to incarnate their ingenuity and exhibit the product /prototype developed. Many participants said that they would definitely pursue some of the ideas that they are working during the event going ahead.

Hackathon Covid-19
The word Hackathon is portmanteau from the words "hack" and "marathon". The main intension of it is to inculcate problem-solving knacks among Engineering aspirants. An engineer can’t run away from problems, he will have to come up with conceptions which is one his duty.
Amid this pandemic, MERIISE in collaboration with NAIN had organized a one-day online hackathon called “Hackathon COVID-19” on the 12th of May 2020, to the budding engineers across the state. Big Data Workshop
What is big data? Why is big data?
Big Data is a field that treats ways to analyse, systematically extract information from, or otherwise deal with data sets that are too large or complex to be dealt with by traditional data-processing application software. Data with many cases(rows) offer greater statistical power, while data with higher complexity(more attributes or columns)may lead to higher false discovery rate.
Without big data analytics, most of the organisations would become similar to a wayfarer, who doesn't know what to do or where to go completely lost in the world of data. Big data is like a compass to the wanderer.
With knowing all this advantages of big data, “PRAGYATHA” provided a great opportunity for interested candidates from all over the state who were eager to learn the basics of “Big Data” analytics.
Numerous participants from all over the state were gathered to harness the knowledge from the workshop which lasted for two consecutive days during “PRAGYATHA”.
The participants were monitored by a very resourceful person named Dr. Pramod Kumar Naik, who has been working as a Senior manager for Technical and skill development division at "AGIMUS Technologies Pvt. Ltd" and “RV Skills”, Bangalore, guided the participants in developing the technical skills on Big Data.
It was indeed a promising workshop with positive feedback from all the participants.

Colloquy
It's always very difficult to initiate business and it's even more difficult to maintain it smoothly. This process of established of business begins with the generation of innovative ideas followed by the incubation of those ideas and finally leads to the commercialization of the same ideas. All these steps are inter related.
ME-RIISE had organized an one-day colloquy on 7th May 2019 at the Alumni Hall of the College premises. The colloquy was on the 'Idea Generation to Incubation'. The occasion was graced by Mr. Johnson Tellis.
Mr Johnson Tellis is the founder of Sahyadri EDU Dreamers, Former CEO of Goal Technologies, Head of initiatives and strategies at Sahyadri Hub for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. He is also an entrepreneur with proficiency in Electronics Research Field, Robotics and a person with appetite to stimulate powerful young minds.
The event began by watering the plants. The main intent of the event was to emphasize the creative minds and to develop the proposal of Entrepreneurship in students. The speaker started his talk by sharing his own story of accomplishment which was truly exhilarating. We had a deep confabulation about the entrepreneural ideas and development of humor to create new ideas. He also made us to understand how market and customer service works. He robustly elucidated the real importance of passion, design thinking, Habituation, innovation and contributing society by making people's lives better. Finally he summarized by telling that we have to come out of Habituation and have to take part in Innovation in order to create something new.
We also had many activities with regards to develop entrepreneural qualities. It was such a galvanizing and resourceful session, where the participants were able to think outside the box and also the energetic participation by the students lived up to the make the event lucrative and the day efficacious.
Hack-o-Electric
As the saying goes “Necessity is the father of all inventions”, there is no end to problems or necessities. To knock out the problems is what we as engineers are supposed to do. Our participants had an opportunity to come up with solutions in a real-time scenario in the electrical/electronic domain.
Challenges were given to the participants; they were able to come up with ideas which were the best indeed. It was a 24 hour-long event with more than 135 participants who didn't capitulate. The credit of organizing goes to ME-RIISE(Malnad Enclave for Research, Innovation, Incubation, Start-up and Entrepreneurship) and Malnad College of Engineering. The event surpassed the expectations of organizers.
It was a two-day event; the event was kicked-off on the 8th of November 2019. The coordinators of the event were Dr. Geetha Kiran A and Mr. Chandrashekhar H S. The juries for the event were Mr.Krishnanand S H and Mr. Meyyappan Subramaniyan who steered the participants and showed light towards their goal.

Seed Grant
This event was mainly about creating a platform to the students with astonishing ideas about the start-ups that would be helping the industries to enhance their level.
Seed grant was divided into two phases. Whereas in the first phase many passionate students came up with pretty interesting ways to overcome the same problem statement they were given with. The participants were instructed to explain their ideas to the panel of our juries which included Mr. Johnson Tellis , chief executive officer at Technical career education and also the director of Sahyadri hub for Innovations and Entrepreneurship and also various other contributors from different places acrosss the state, through video conference.
In the second and the important phase of the event, the participants had to skillfully portray their ideas through a well-prepared presentation, which went too well and overpowered our expectations. Piyali Pal and Krishan Bajpai from Bangalore came out as the winners of this event.
Seed Grant was successful enough in providing a conservative opportunity for the participants to demonstrate their start-up ideas on the platform and received much appreciations from the participants and the juries.
